 New Deacons 2018

Archbishop Jose Gomez ordained sixteen men to the Permanent Diaconate on June 9, 2018. Together with their wives they have completed a formation program of five years which included pastoral, academic, spiritual and human dimensions.  Here are their photos along with brief descriptions of their parish ministries.

Deacon Gabriel and Sara Aguilera are from Saint Kateri 
Tekakwitha parish in Valencia. Their ministries include bereavement, 
Baptism preparation, and detention ministry. 


Deacon Antonio and Anita Arana are parishoners at St. Clare of Assisi parish in Santa Clarita.  Their ministries include Baptisms, RCIA, marriage preparation, and Deacon Antonio continues ministry 
to the incarcerated.




Deacon Victor and Maria de Lourdes Ceja are from Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Downey. 
They are involved in liturgy planning, bereavement, visits to the sick, detention ministry, Baptisms, 
and RCIA.


Deacon Al and Annette Guerrero are from St. Denis parish in Diamond Bar. Their ministries include 
visiting the sick, Cursillo retreats, and Bible study.



Deacon David and Candida Cortez are parishioners at St. Mary's in Palmdale.  They participate
in fundraising and collecting household goods for a parish in Mexico, ministry to the incarcerated,
coordinating altar servers, visitng the sick, retreats, and parish missions.




Deacon Fermin and Irene Gomez belong to St. Didicus parish in Sylmar.  Deacon Fermin serves
as a chaplain for the Archdiocese.  Their parish ministries include visits to the sick and visits to the inarcerated.




Deacon Terrence and Mindy Irwin are from St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Valencia. Their ministries
include visits to youth detention centers, RCIA, and Baptisms. Mindy is cantor, music leader, and 
participates in bereavement ministry. 




Deacon Sergio and Ana Lopez are parishioners at St. Raphael in Santa Barbara.  They visit the sick, serve in the St. Vincent de Paul mnistry and help in Baptism ministries.  Deacon Sergio also serves as director for the parish School of Evangelization.


Deacon Romeo and Liza Marie Mabansag are parishioners at St. Mary of the Assumption parish
in Santa Maria.  They minister in St. Vincent de Paul, are involved in evangelization through "Live Christ, Share Christ," and serve in bereavement ministry.




Deacon Jorge and Dona Perez Malca minister every Saturday in "Christian Care" providing
care packages to the homeless.  They also make home visits to the sick in their parish. 
Deacon Jorge brings communion to the sick in the local hospitals and Dona brings the Eucharist
to the homebound.  Finally, Deacon Jorge coordinates the hispanic ministries in the parish.




Deacon Danny and Linda Oropeza minister in St. John the Baptist parish in Baldwin Park.  
They teach in RCIA and visit the sick.




Deacon William Pilkington is from St. Gregory the Great in Whittier. In addition to visiting elerly 
parishioners and ministering in bereavement,  Bill is director of liturgy.



Deacon Carlos and Marianne Porras belong to St. Dominic Savio parish in Bellflower.  
Deacon Carlos ministers in restorative justice outreach, Baptism, bereavement, parish council, and
is chaplin to the Knights of Columbus.  Marianne joins her husband Baptism and bereavement ministry
and serves as Eucharistic minister.



Deacon Benjamin and Maria Ramos are parishioners at St. Anthony of Padua in El Segundo.
Deacon Ben attends to the general pastoral care of parishioners, is involved in Baptism ministry, and 
takes communion to the sick and homebound.




Deacon Steven and Margaret Sloniker serve the commuity of St. Bridget of Sweden in 
Lake Balboa. ​They have served the parish as lectors, altar servers, and bereavement ministers and continue to serve as Eucharistic ministers to the home bound.  Peggy also is co-coordinator for the Confirmation program.




Deacon Sargon and Leslie Younan serve the parish community of St. John Eudes in Chatsworth. 

They visit the homebound as well as the sick and elderly, and are involved in various aspects of liturgy especially Baptisms. Deacon Sargon lends his talents to parish admininstation, the finance council, pastoral council.
